Injured Cougar Captured and Killed in Port Alberni Neighbourhood

An injured cougar that had been spotted in residential and commercial areas in Port Alberni for several weeks was euthanized.

A BC Conservation Service officer cornered the cougar in a yard and, upon assessment, found it had a gunshot wound to a leg and into the chest, as well as a badly broken leg. The animal appeared emaciated in photos taken by neighbours.

Physical assessment of the animal found that it had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to a leg and into the chest.

The cougar was humanely dispatched at the site due to its severe injuries. It had been spotted in various locations, including underneath the Port Alberni Port Authority office building, causing concern among employees.
