Special Unit to Combat Intimate Partner Violence

Sudbury police receive an average of four calls a day alleging domestic violence.

In response, the Greater Sudbury Police Service has created a special unit to deal with intimate partner violence as a one-year pilot project.

“We’re hoping we are going to save some resources, and it also gives us dedicated officers to deal with community services,”

said Chief Sara Cunningham. The new unit will have six members, including two specially trained officers in intimate partner violence investigations and victim support.
