State Roundup: Maryland Joins Public Health Alliance

Maryland, along with 13 other states and Guam, has formed a public health alliance to counter recent federal health policies.

This alliance, known as the Governors Public Health Alliance, is a response to the Trump administration's guidance and decisions made by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In a clear rebuke of recent federal health policy, 15 Democratic governors – including Maryland Gov. Wes Moore – announced the formation of the alliance.

The alliance is the largest move by states to diverge from recent policy decisions, which have alarmed medical and public health experts due to federal funding cuts for health services and changes to vaccine guidance.

Additionally, Attorney General Brown has issued directives for police in working with federal agencies, and a speculative poll shows Gov. Moore leading Hogan.

Author's summary: Maryland joins 14 entities in a public health alliance.
