Amazon Web Services Issues Cause Canvas Outage
Canvas, the platform used by Emory University to facilitate classes, is experiencing a full outage due to Amazon Web Services (AWS) issues, according to its status website.
Canvas reports that half of all North American higher education institutions use its services and are impacted by the outage. Downdetector, a platform that tracks website outages, has been reporting around 5,000 complaints per hour, significantly higher than the typical 5-10 complaints per hour.
Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, first reported issues at 3:04 a.m. EST and blamed the outage on AWS, causing issues with the Canvas login service and submission system.
