New data shows police arrests during federal task force surge

New Data on Police Arrests During Federal Task Force Surge

The City of Memphis has released new data showing the Memphis Police Department made 1,217 arrests in the first four weeks of the Memphis Safe Task Force's surge.

According to the data, 699 arrests were for misdemeanor charges and 518 were for felony charges.

"This is new," said Mayor Paul Young. "We still have our dashboard for the city, it still exists, but this is a new document that we're going to provide on a daily basis during this surge."

The data also shows that serious offenses, including murders, aggravated assaults, and robberies, remained in the hundreds consistently throughout 2024, but 2025 shows a different pattern.

The mayor stated that releasing this data provides context surrounding the Memphis Police Department's work both before and during the task force's arrival.
