Waymo Co-CEO Urges Transparency in Autonomous Vehicle Safety
Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana emphasized the need for rival autonomous vehicle companies to be more transparent about their safety data.
During an interview at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025, Mawakana stated that other companies working on autonomous vehicles must do more to prove their technology is safe.
“I don’t know who’s on that list, because they’re not telling us what’s happening with their fleets,”
Mawakana highlighted the importance of prioritizing safety while scaling operations, citing Waymo's recently released data that shows the company's vehicles are five times safer than human drivers and 12 times safer with respect to pedestrians.
