Brattleboro, state look toward 'lean year'

Brattleboro and State Prepare for "Lean Year"

Local politicians in Brattleboro are preparing for a "lean year" in terms of spending and funding.

According to State Rep. Emilie Kornheiser, D-Windham-7, the state is expecting lower revenues due to economic instability and tariffs.

"With the state of the economy as a result of tariffs, economic instability from the federal government, all of that, we are expecting to have much lower state revenues for next year,"

Kornheiser noted that while revenues will be slightly higher than last year, they will not keep pace with inflation or rising healthcare costs for state employees.

The COVID-era funding is also coming to an end, as mentioned by Kornheiser during a legislative update at the Select Board meeting.

Author's summary: Brattleboro faces a lean year ahead.
