State Representative Marcus Wiedower (R-Watkinsville) has resigned from his seat, prompting a special election to replace him.
Wiedower, a four-term legislator, represented District 121, which includes most of Oconee County and part of Clarke County. He cited his growing real estate business, Hillpointe, as the reason for his resignation, where he serves as vice president of external affairs.
“This decision has been incredibly difficult. Serving in the Georgia General Assembly has been one of the greatest honors of my life,”
Wiedower expressed gratitude to his constituents and colleagues, and although he is stepping away from elected office, he plans to remain involved in the community and address Georgia's challenges, particularly attainable housing, through his work at Hillpointe.
