An orange shark was documented in Costa Rica, bringing to life what once existed only in childhood imagination

Orange Shark Discovered in Costa Rica

A childhood imagination has come to life with the discovery of an orange shark in Costa Rica.

In August 2024, sport fishermen encountered a 2-meter long nurse shark with an intense orange hue and white eyes off the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

Its striking color is possibly due to xanthism, a pigmentation variation that can produce an excess of yellow or orange tones in the skin and scales.

The shark also displayed possible partial albinism, leaving certain areas without pigment while preserving color elsewhere.

The shark's appearance is almost as if it had jumped from a drawing.

After a brief capture, the shark was released immediately.

Author's summary: Orange shark found in Costa Rica.
