This installment of Patricia Baker’s column series documents her family’s health challenges, specifically dealing with the aftermath of her husband’s death.
After Harry's passing, the family spent about an hour with him, slowly coming to terms with the permanence of death. The daily routines they had grown accustomed to, such as taking him to the courtyard or getting him ready for bed, were now a thing of the past.
Their frequent hospital visits had given them quality time with Harry, especially for the boys who were very close to their dad. However, the loss would be deeply felt in the days of mourning that followed.
As we sat with Harry for about an hour after he died, the permanent nature of death began to sink in.
