Galamsey Fight: EPA Launches "Reclaim, Restore, Rebuild" Initiative
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has launched a new initiative, "Reclaim, Restore, Rebuild", to heal lands devastated by illegal mining.
According to the EPA's Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, the government is determined to reclaim and rehabilitate landscapes ravaged by galamsey operations, which have stripped bare vast stretches of Ghana's forests, farmlands, and river systems, endangering biodiversity and threatening livelihoods and public health.
The reclamation project we're launching today is a step toward healing the land, restoring livelihoods, and rebuilding hope.
A 2,000-hectare pilot reclamation project has been launched at Gyaman Nkwanta in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, marking a significant step towards reversing the environmental devastation and restoring the nation's degraded ecosystems.
