In Georgian Preston, a shocking crime took place when 22-year-old Jane Scott murdered her parents.
Jane, almost too weak to stand, was carried to the gallows at Lancaster Castle to hang for her crime.
She was born into a modest but respectable household, one of three children, with her father, John Scott, being a Methodist preacher and shopkeeper.
Jane later stated that her parents had been kind and raised her well.
However, at the age of 15, Jane fell pregnant, claiming to have been seduced by a local man, and her son was baptised in 1821, although his fate remains unknown.
Afterwards, Jane began to drink, steal from her parents, and drift away from her family's faith, giving birth twice more, in 1824 and 1825, but both children died in infancy.
