Rowan Women's Volleyball: Joy as Their Secret Weapon

The Rowan women's volleyball team has found a winning formula, and it's not just about their skills on the court. As they traveled to Union for a matchup against Kean, their team dynamic was on full display.

A 1 hour and 40 minute road trip north on the New Jersey Turnpike was filled with music and camaraderie. A Spotify playlist featuring songs like "Cry for You" by September got the team in high spirits, although assistant coach Matt Verlinghieri's Metallica suggestions didn't make the cut.

The team's success, with a record of 18-4, can be attributed to the strong bonds between the players. The influx of freshmen and sophomores over the last two years has had a significant impact, with freshman outside hitter Jessica Smart leading the team in kills in her first year.

The reason why Rowan volleyball is making the trip up the New Jersey turnpike at 18-4 – instead of the mark of 12-10 in 2024 – is because it’s a group of 17 girls that love each other.

This sense of joy and teamwork has been the key to their success, making them a formidable opponent on the court.

Author's summary: Rowan women's volleyball team finds success with joy and teamwork.
