Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, has announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.
His resignation triggers a special election in December for House District 121. Currently, Democrat Eric Gisler is running for the House seat in 2026 and may also choose to run in the special election.
This is not the first instance of a State Representative for Oconee resigning and triggering a special election. In 2017, special elections were held after Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick left their offices.
