Eastpointe Military Museum Building Turns 70
The Michigan Military Technical and Historical Society Museum, located on Stephens Road, has a rich history dating back to its origins as a neighborhood ice rink.
“It was called Shakespeare’s Field and it did not even have an address,”
said Wendy Richardson, Military Museum CFO. The property has undergone several transformations, including serving as a teen center, temporary City Hall, and eventually, the Military Museum.
- Started as an ice rink
- Added tennis courts around 1970
- Converted into a teen center after World War II
- Now houses the Military Museum
Richardson will present the history of the property on November 9, in a presentation titled “From Teen Center to Military Museum, The Story of our Building” at 2 p.m.
