Brisbane Roar showcased their resilience in a 0-0 draw against Melbourne City, who lost star midfielder Matthew Leckie to a hamstring injury.
The draw provisionally moved Brisbane Roar to fourth on the ladder, while City remained at the top. Roar coach Michael Valkanis said:
They are a team capable of creating chances and I thought that part of the game we did very well in terms of stifling them.
Valkanis added:
I am really happy with that effort, grit and defending part of the game. The attacking part of the game we will grow and get better at.
City's coach Aurelio Vidmar was concerned about Leckie's injury, which occurred during the first half. Brisbane Roar's new-found resilience was on display as they absorbed early pressure to stay in the fight.
