Mpumalanga Education Department Refutes Claims
The Mpumalanga Department of Education has strongly dismissed claims of irregular salary payments totaling R1.8 billion to former or deceased employees.
A report by The Citizen alleged that the Auditor-General's findings revealed these irregular payments. However, the Department states that the Auditor-General's 2024/25 report contains no such finding.
According to the Department, overpayments of approximately R19 million were made due to administrative delays in termination procedures, not due to fraud or corruption.
