UNISON General Secretary Christina McAnea welcomed members from the south west to celebrate a major campaigning victory against outsourcing.
Members from Dorset, working across three NHS trusts, prevented the introduction of a subco that would have moved 1,700 facilities staff out of direct NHS employment, affecting their terms and conditions, including pensions.
“Every time we’ve seen a subco, we’ve launched a campaign against it – and this was no different,”
said Christina McAnea, who has led national opposition to subcos since 2017. The victory is a significant win for porters, caterers, housekeepers, and other NHS facilities staff.
Dorset’s victory is a
“brilliant example of how organising works”, according to Christina McAnea.
