When it comes to correcting the scientific record, chemists prefer to have a quiet word

Correcting the Scientific Record in Chemistry

A survey of chemists' attitudes to correcting errors in scientific publications reveals that most prefer informal discussions or private communication with editors.

Frédérique Bordignon, a researcher at the LISIS laboratory, contacted 50,000 corresponding authors of publications in American Chemical Society and/or Royal Society of Chemistry journals between 2020-2023, with almost a thousand responding.

Using online platforms and repositories could encourage more corrections to the public record.

Author's summary: Chemists prefer informal corrections.
