Medieval Tower Collapses in Rome
A medieval tower near the Roman Forum has partially collapsed during renovation work, critically injuring at least one worker.
In the heart of Italy's capital, the Torre dei Conti partially collapsed on Monday, injuring one worker and trapping another, according to authorities.
- Hundreds of tourists witnessed the rescue attempt by firefighters using a mobile ladder to reach the trapped worker.
- Another part of the structure collapsed during the rescue, forcing firefighters to retreat.
Firefighter spokesman Luca Cari confirmed that one worker remained trapped hours after the initial collapse.
A rescued worker is being treated in critical condition, while three other workers were rescued unharmed.
