Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has launched the Tswa Daar initiative to tackle drug and alcohol abuse in the province.
Lesufi launched the campaign in Tembisa, stating that he has mandated the provincial police commissioner to intensify the war against drugs.
"We can't allow drug cartels to ruin the future of our children. We can't allow drug lords to sell drugs to our children,”
Lesufi emphasized the need to protect children, warning the provincial commissioner of police that his job is at risk if he fails to arrest approximately 175 drug lords across Gauteng.
About 650 substance abuse victims have been taken to rehabilitation centers, and Lesufi called on communities to support young people struggling with substance abuse.
